Malibu is preparing for an intimate, high-energy celebration of glam-rock cinema history. On Saturday, September 19, 2026, the 25th Anniversary Movie Tour of the rock musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch comes to the Arlene & Dick Van Dyke Theater for the Performing Arts at Malibu High School. Writer, director, Golden Globe nominee, and Tony Award winner John Cameron Mitchell will appear in person for his most intimate performance in Southern California.

4K Screening, Live Acoustic Set, and Direct Q&A

The event features a 4K screening of the 2001 film adaptation, followed by a live Q&A and a special mini-acoustic performance by Mitchell. Fans looking for an up-close experience can grab Artist Circle seating, which includes an exclusive Artist Meet & Greet with Mitchell.

Attendees are encouraged to come dressed as their best Hedwig or in a look inspired by John Cameron Mitchell’s body of work. A Quarter-Century of Glam-Rock Rebellion

Created by Mitchell and Stephen Trask (music & lyrics), Hedwig and the Angry Inch follows Hedwig, a genderqueer East German rock singer navigating love, identity, and rock ‘n’ roll. After premiering Off-Broadway in 1998 and winning the Obie Award and Outer Critics Circle Award, the show was adapted into the beloved 2001 film that earned Mitchell the Sundance Film Festival Best Director Award. Its 2014 Broadway revival won four Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical.
