From Phantom Zone to Pig Pen: Sarah Douglas Joins the Oinkersfield Elite
From the Phantom Zone to the frontlines of Oinkersfield: Superman legend Sarah Douglas is officially joining the voice cast of The Swines Season 2. Best known for her iconic portrayal of the chilling Ursa in Superman and Superman II, the stage-and-screen veteran is bringing her razor-sharp wit to Stewart St John’s irreverent animated comedy. Douglas will voice “Sarah Piglas”—a heightened, glamorous version of herself—in the upcoming season premiere on YouTube, set to drop Friday, April 24.
The Pedigree of Piglas
Sarah Douglas is no stranger to the high-stakes drama of the stage or the campy brilliance of cult classics like Conan the Destroyer and Falcon Crest. Her move into the animated “pig-pun-powered universe” of The Swines marks a reunion with Wonkybot Entertainment, where she previously voiced The Empress in the Parents’ Choice Gold Award-winning Tara Tremendous audio series.
Douglas notes that she was drawn back to St John’s work because it is “fearless—smart, irreverent, and deeply affectionate toward genre and pop culture”. In a world that often takes itself too seriously, Douglas appreciates that The Swines “knows exactly what it is”.
For the theatre-goer who appreciates meticulous world-building, The Swines offers more than just animal antics. Creator Stewart St John credits his early mentorship under animation legend Joe Barbera (of Hanna-Barbera fame) as the blueprint for the series. Much like The Flintstones committed entirely to its prehistoric setting, The Swines operates on its own internal “snout rules”.
From Cliffhangers to Chaos
In the town of Oinkersfield, every social hierarchy, linguistic quirk, and cultural tradition is reimagined through swine-based logic. St John describes the series as a “complete universe” where the humor is derived from a total commitment to its pig-centric reality.
Season Two picks up immediately after a high-tension Season One finale. Fans will recall the “outrageous soap-opera energy” of the cliffhanger, which saw Sebastian St. Piggleton, his husband Rodd, and their partner Marcus fleeing into the forests after a counterfeit luxury watch scandal.
As the town’s elite deal with land disputes and casino misadventures, the arrival of Sarah Piglas is expected to send “shockwaves” through the existing power struggles. Douglas’s character is described as a glamorous figure whose sharp tongue will undoubtedly find a home among Oinkersfield’s “scheming, lovable, and unapologetically larger-than-life characters”.
A Hybrid Approach to Storytelling
In a savvy nod to how modern audiences consume media, Wonkybot is utilizing a hybrid release model for the series. While full episodes air in a traditional 16:9 format every other Friday, the narrative is expanded through daily YouTube Shorts. This strategy allows the show to bridge the gap between long-form viewers and mobile-first audiences, ensuring that the “sizzle” of Oinkersfield is never more than a scroll away.
The full Season Two trailer is set to debut on April 10, leading up to the April 24 premiere on YouTube.
