Los Angeles-based band The Manic Standstill continues their streak of anthemic, heartfelt releases with the arrival of their latest single, “Go Away,” an upbeat and melodic duet featuring Nicolette Vilar of the beloved LA pop-punk band Go Betty Go.
“Go Away” finds vocalist/songwriter Adam Bones (Save Ferris, Richie Ramone, Josie Cotton, The Two Tens) teaming up with Vilar on a long-gestating collaboration that began nearly a decade ago. “Nicolette’s idea for her and I to do a duet came up a long while ago,” Bones shares. “We tried once back then, but it didn’t really go anywhere. When The Manic Standstill’s album started coming together, I thought it was the perfect time to revisit it.”

Bones unearthed an old demo with a strong melody and structure but admittedly weak lyrics. “Nicolette liked the demo, and we both agreed it needed new words. Later, while hanging out with friends at her place, she came downstairs with a spark of inspiration, and we started writing right there on the spot.”
The result is a resonant and relatable song about two people in a relationship—whether romantic, platonic, or familial—caught in the push-and-pull of adventure versus stability. Their vocal chemistry and storytelling make “Go Away” a highlight in The Manic Standstill’s growing discography.
The song’s accompanying video marks Adam’s directorial debut, a high-energy performance clip peppered with real-life B-roll footage of him and Nicolette on tour when he filled in on guitar for Go Betty Go. “I wanted to make something simple and fun that reflected the vibe of the track,” says Bones. “It was such a great time creating the song and video with Nicolette. I’m glad our almost-decade-long idea finally came to life.”
Produced and recorded by Bones and TMS drummer Brad Dickert at Brad’s Tacaboom Studios, “Go Away” follows the band’s previous singles “Reasons Why” and “Bulletproof,” continuing the momentum toward their upcoming full-length album Moving, due later this year via Wiretap Records/Double Helix.
The LP boasts a stacked lineup of guest appearances, including:
Ian Fowles (The Aquabats), Kevin Preston (Prima Donna), Jonah Nimoy (The Offspring), Kody Templeman (Teenage Bottlerocket, The Lillingtons), Nicolette Vilar, Aixa Vilar & Michelle Rangel (Go Betty Go), Jonah Nimoy, Kelly Ogden & Luis Cabezas (The Dollyrots), Drew Champion (Suzi Moon), Paul Roessler (The Screamers), Packy Lundholm (I Fight Dragons), “Lights Out” Levine (Prima Donna), “Little” Dave Parker (Billy Liar, Johnny Madcap & the Distractions) and Ari Shine.
