Palmyra Delran New Release of 60s Classic HOLD TIGHT
The fuzz, mayhem, and frying brain cells we get up for!
Palmyra Delran has always been a mainstay of the garage-pop underground, but her latest move proves she’s still finding new ways to crank up the volume. Last week Delran and her band, The Doppel Gang, unleashed a “freshly unhinged” reimagining of the 1960s cult hit “Hold Tight” by Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich and we can’t stop listening to it. It’s a joy machine.
This isn’t a polite tribute; the track is a vibrant reinterpretation that leans hard into raw textures, defined by buzzing guitars and crashing tambourines. Delran, whose career has long balanced a reverence for classic pop with a deep love for distortion and attitude, describes the new version as having a grit and immediacy that captures the chaotic spirit of the original.
“‘Hold Tight’… is one of those songs that I don’t remember hearing for the first time. I think I just always knew it,” Delran says of the track’s enduring appeal. For her, the magic lies in the noise: “Nothing brings the mayhem like a loud and sloppy tambourine. As far as the fuzzy guitar, I think that’s the sound of brain cells frying, in a good way”.
A storied career
The single is a natural fit for Delran’s storied career. From her days as a founding member of The Friggs, the NYC band that brought punk energy to tours with Weezer, to her collaboration in the indie supergroup The Coolies alongside legends like Clem Burke and the late Kim Shattuck, Delran has remained a defining voice in the scene.
Beyond her work in the studio, Delran is a respected DJ and radio personality on SiriusXM’s Underground Garage, where she champions both classic and contemporary rock ‘n’ roll. Her solo work has frequently been featured on Little Steven Van Zandt’s Wicked Cool Records, cementing her status as a key figure in the modern garage and power-pop revival. Fans can catch her bringing that same garage-rock energy to the high seas on the upcoming 2026 Underground Garage Cruise.
With The Doppel Gang providing a “tight, driving backbone,” this latest release celebrates the very chaos that makes rock ‘n’ roll endure. If you’re looking for a track that pairs jangly pop hooks with pure garage grit, “Hold Tight” is ready to fry some brain cells.
