Last weekend members of the Theatre Producers of Southern California, known as TPSCA, gathered at Atwater Village Theatre to present a letter of endorsement to CA State Senator Maria Elana Durzao for the position of Los Angeles County Supervisor.
“Senator Durazo has been a champion for the arts throughout her career,” says TPSCA president Martha Demson, whose Open Fist Theatre Company is in residence at Atwater Village Theatre. “She understands that the performing arts are not only vital to our cultural identity but also a powerful economic driver that sustains thousands of jobs and strengthens communities across Los Angeles County.”
“Maria Elena Durazo’s record speaks for itself,” agrees Casa0101 executive director Emmanuel Deleage, who serves as treasurer of the TPSCA board. “She has dedicated her life to building a fairer, more vibrant Los Angeles, a place where artists and working families can thrive. We are proud to stand with her.”
TPSCA represents a diverse collective of nonprofit theater producers dedicated to advancing the vitality and impact of live performance throughout the region. The organization advocates for policies that support artistic innovation, fair labor practices, and community engagement across Los Angeles and beyond.
To the Campaign of Maria Elena Durazo for Supervisor 2026:
On behalf of the Theatre Producers of Southern California (TPSCA), we are proud to offer our strong endorsement of Maria Elena Durazo for Los Angeles County Supervisor. Ms. Durazo has proven time and again that she is a visionary leader deeply committed to both the cultural vitality of our region and the well-being of its communities.
First, Maria Elena Durazo has been a steadfast champion of the arts, recognizing that cultural institutions are not merely entertainment—they are essential to the economic health, identity, and cohesion of Los Angeles County. She has consistently advocated for public arts funding, equitable access to artistic education, and fair labor practices for creative workers. Her understanding of how the performing arts drive tourism, enrich our neighborhoods, and provide pathways to cultural equity makes her an invaluable ally to all who work in and benefit from the arts.
Second, her long-standing progressive leadership has advanced equity, workers’ rights, and social justice across our region.
From her years as a labor leader to her legislative work in the State Senate, Durazo has amplified the voices of working families and historically marginalized communities. Her policies reflect a deep and consistent commitment to the people who make Los Angeles thrive—artists, educators, workers, and families alike.
In Maria Elena Durazo, we see a leader who not only shares our values but who will fight for them. Her vision aligns with what Los Angeles County needs: a Supervisor who values the arts as an engine of progress and who stands firm for inclusive prosperity. For these reasons, Theatre Producers of Southern California wholeheartedly endorses Maria Elena Durazo for Los Angeles County Supervisor.
