World Premiere: Brenda Wachel’s “In the Deep” at LA Shorts

Filmmaker Brenda Wachel marks her narrative directing debut this week with the world premiere of her emotional drama, In the Deep. The film explores the delicate balance between hope and the difficult pursuit of truth following a sudden loss.

The premiere will take place as part of the LA Shorts International Film Festival Wednesday, August 12, 3:15 p.m. at Regal NoHo West (6150 Laurel Canyon Blvd., North Hollywood)

The Story

The film follows Marga, a woman whose life is shattered when her fiancé disappears without a trace on a beautiful night. Left in silence and “walking underwater,” Marga is suspended between the hope of his return and the reality of his absence. When a stranger’s story pulls her toward the surface, she must decide whether to cling to blind hope or embrace the messiness of the truth.

Cast and Crew

The production features a talented ensemble cast and a veteran crew and stars Maria Bata, Evan Gamble, Gui Agustini, Whitney Anderson, Taylor Nichols, and Jaime Alvarez.

In The Deep is written, directed, and produced by Brenda Wachel, with executive producer Marciann Shapiro. The film features an original score by Trevor Armstrong, cinematography by Cameron Owen, and editing by Roger Cooper and Gib Jaffe.

About Director Brenda Wachel

Wachel brings years of industry experience to her directing debut, having served as a Script Supervisor on major motion pictures including Collateral, I Am Sam, October Sky, and Hidalgo. She describes In the Deep as a gentle film that chooses “feeling over explanation” to explore the “truth of loving without answer”.
