At a time marked by widespread book bans and a growing void of imaginative storytelling for young audiences, the return of PBS’s literature-loving Jack Russell terrier serves as a timely reminder of the joy of reading. This national theatrical release and upcoming October 8th Collector’s Edition Blu-Ray offer nostalgic fans and new viewers alike an empowering, comfort-watch story centered on curiosity and timeless tales.

One-Night-Only Theatrical Event: Locations & Tickets

The documentary will screen at select Regal Cinemas locations nationwide on Saturday, September 19th. Participating markets span the country, including major West Coast hubs like Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, Seattle, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Stockton, and Modesto.

Viewers in the South and Southwest can catch screenings in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Phoenix, and Atlanta, while Midwest and East Coast audiences will have access in Chicago, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. Tickets are available now and can be reserved directly through the Regal Cinemas Ticket Portal.

The Legacy of PBS’s Beloved Children’s Series

Celebrating more than 30 years since its debut, What’s The Story, Wishbone? takes audiences behind the scenes of the Peabody and Emmy Award–winning PBS series. The documentary explores how a groundbreaking children’s show transformed classic literature into must-see television, becoming a defining cultural phenomenon for a generation.

The upcoming theatrical release follows a massive year for the film. After airing across more than 200 public television stations nationwide, it launched digitally—debuting at No. 1 among documentaries on Apple and remaining in the Top 10 for over two months.

Collector’s Edition Blu-Ray Special Features

Releasing on October 8th, the Blu-Ray Collector’s Edition is packed with exclusive bonus content for physical media collectors and nostalgic fans alike. The release features rare archive treasures, including a long-lost interview with Wishbone and unseen behind-the-scenes footage from the original series production. Viewers will also get access to newly produced reflection interviews featuring the cast and crew discussing what it was like working alongside the iconic Jack Russell Terrier.

The Blu-Ray release includes three feature-length commentary tracks. Audiences can listen to a director’s commentary with Joey Stewart (Wishbone, Walker, Texas Ranger), as well as a dedicated audio track with Larry Brantley, the original voice of Wishbone. A special creator reunion commentary also brings together original series creator Rick Duffield, producer Betty Buckley (Emmy and Peabody Award winner and founder of Women in Film Dallas), Larry Brantley, and Joey Stewart. Each physical Blu-Ray package will also feature an exclusive collectible mini-poster.
