Vashon Island Film Festival opens 8/8 and runs through 8/11 at the iconic Vashon Theatre in Washington State.

Come for the Movies!

This year’s slate of twelve features, ten shorts and three local projects is arguably the fest’s best-ever with festival jury and award winners. The narrative features include: Director Vincent Grashaw’s Bang Bang, starring Tim Blake Nelson, the North American Premiere of Un Certain Regard Award and Palm Dog Grand Jury Prize Winner at Cannes 2024, Director Guan Hu’s Black Dog, Director Brendan Gabriel Murphy’s Fluxx, I Saw the TV Glow from Director Jane Schoenbrun, Director Nicholas Colia’s Griffin in Summer, Directors Astrid Rondero, Fernanda Valadez’ Sujo and Director Bartek Bala’s Swarm (Rój).

Stay for the Island!

Vashon is one of Washington State’s greatest treasures and is only a fifteen-minute ferry ride from Seattle or Point Defiance (Tacoma). It’s a laid-back bucolic hideaway replete with culture, magnificent scenery and what’s rumored to be some of the best food in the Pacific Northwest.

Vashon Island Film Festival punches way above its weight this year as it screens seven narrative features and five documentary features that are all Pacific Northwest premieres (unless otherwise noted.)

The documentary features include: The West Coast Premiere of Director Paul Levatino’s Bastards of Soul, Director Silje Evensmo Jacobsen’s A New Kind of Wilderness, Directors Brendan Bellomo and Slava Leontyev’s Porcelain War, Director Alison Tavel’s Resynator and Director Contessa Gayles’ Songs from the Hole.

Local Spotlights highlight films from the local community, including director Emily Moss Wilson’s feature film Inheritance which premiered this summer at Dances With Films LA. The World Premiere of director Thomas Scott Stanton’s short film Mare and the World Premiere of Children of The Setting Sun’s television pilot The Sound.
