A Sci-Fi Live-Action Mecha Movie
The sci-fi live-action movie Heavens: The Boy and His Robot will have its World Premiere at Cinequest March 14th. Rich Ho’s directorial debut is a hopeful, action-packed family adventure infused with offbeat humor and heartfelt emotion, created to ignite young imaginations while rekindling a sense of wonder in adults.
Anchored by an emotional relationship between a struggling young pilot, Kai, and his fighter robot, Little Dragon, the story follows their efforts to bring peace during a time of epic galactic warfare that tore Kai’s family apart. We journey through the eyes of Kai, who dreams of joining the military’s elite force, the Mecha Corps, to follow in his parents’ footsteps and aid Earth’s efforts to end the war, in the hope that no other child will have to suffer the loss he endured.
As Kai faces the trials of academy training and the weight of impossible expectations, he must learn that becoming a pilot is not enough. To survive the challenges ahead, he must build trust with Little Dragon, forging a partnership tested by failure, fear, and the lingering scars of war. Through action, humor, and quiet moments of connection, their bond becomes a source of strength—proof that belief, patiently held, can outlast even the darkest night.
