Jimmy Buffett’s “Occupational Hazard” Hits Theaters Sept 4

Narrated by Jeff Bridges, the award-winning documentary captures the “camaraderie, chaos, and magic” of the musicians who built the Parrot Head empire.

Long before the global brand and the “Parrot Head” empire, Jimmy Buffett was a struggling musician in Key West, backed by a wild, irreverent group of artists who helped shape his legendary sound. Their story is finally coming to the big screen in the award-winning documentary Occupational Hazard: The First Coral Reefers, which begins its North American theatrical release this September.

Occupational Hazard: The First Coral Reefers” premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival 2026 and has since gone on to pick up accolades across the country on the festival circuit.

Set against the creative backdrop of 1970s and early 1980s Key West, the film explores the “camaraderie, chaos, and magic” of an era that thrived on freedom and lived without a rulebook. It captures the original Coral Reefer Band through rare, never-before-seen archival footage and deeply personal interviews with founding members, producers, and music legends.

Evan Saxon Productions has acquired the theatrical rights, timing the release in major cities to coincide with Jimmy Buffett Day on September 4, 2026. Following its theatrical run, the 92-minute documentary will be available on TVOD and digital platforms in October 2026.
