Lionsgate Announces 4K Ultra HD and Digital Release for ‘Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret’

Kelly Fremon Craig’s near-perfect coming-of-age film locks in an August 2026 release date for 4K Ultra HD and Digital.

Physical media collectors and fans of Judy Blume have a reason to celebrate. Lionsgate has officially announced that the critically acclaimed comedic drama Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret is officially coming to 4K Ultra HD and Digital platforms on August 25, 2026.

Written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig, the 2023 film beautifully adapts Blume’s timeless 1970 coming-of-age novel. The story follows 11-year-old Margaret (Abby Ryder Fortson) as she is uprooted from her bustling life in New York City to the unfamiliar suburbs of New Jersey. Navigating the chaotic, awkward throes of puberty and a new school, Margaret relies heavily on her mother (Rachel McAdams) who is dealing with her own structural life adjustments and her adoring grandmother, played brilliantly by Kathy Bates. 

Critical Acclaim and Box Office Reception

The adaptation sits at a near-perfect 99% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, earning its spot as one of the most celebrated book-to-screen adaptations in recent memory. Critics heavily praised the movie’s emotional resonance during its theatrical run. In their review, Time Out hailed the film as “poignant, peppery and plain life-enhancing,” calling it “a hand stretched out in solidarity” to anyone navigating adolescence. Additionally, reviewers widely lauded Rachel McAdams for turning in a “magnificent” and Oscar-worthy performance as Margaret’s mother.

The stellar ensemble cast also includes Elle Graham and Benny Safdie. Legendary filmmaker James L. Brooks serves as a producer alongside Julie Ansell, Richard Sakai, Kelly Fremon Craig, and Judy Blume herself.
