Minneapolis mainstays expand their sound into atmospheric shoegaze on a must-listen debut LP.

The Twin Cities scene is delivering another gem. Minneapolis indie rock mainstays Sunken Planes drop their highly anticipated debut full-length album, In Due Time, this Friday, August 28, 2026 via Poor L’amour Records. If you already love their 2024 debut EP Intersections, this new record takes that core sound and kicks it wide open.

That Midwest Indie Rock Sound We Love

The band has built a massive local reputation for incredibly tight, precise live shows. Channeling the spirits of The Smiths, The Replacements, and Swervedriver, their signature style mixes jangly guitar textures and sharp lead hooks with a driving rhythm section. For In Due Time, they tracked at the legendary Pachyderm Studios with engineer Nick Tveitbakk on mixing duties and Neil Weir handling the mastering. The result is a much bigger, atmospheric sound that expands their indie rock roots into shoegaze and jangle-pop territory.

Sunken Planes Band Lineup

The four-piece outfit features a tight musical chemistry shaped by years on local stages. Michael Banning leads the group on vocals, guitar, and piano, while Jacob Poling handles the intricate guitar lead work. The rhythm section is anchored by bassist and backing vocalist Joel Almberg alongside Nick Blake on drums and electronics.

Album Release Show Details

To celebrate the drop, Sunken Planes are throwing an official release party in Minneapolis on September 12, 2026, at Cloudland Theater. They are sharing the stage with local favorites Muun Bato and Super Haiku, and they are also lining up more regional Midwest tour dates soon.

Support Indie Music: Where to Stream and Buy “In Due Time”

While the record will hit all major streaming platforms this Friday, the best way to support indie artists is to buy directly from the source. Head over to the official Sunken Planes website to grab the album, join their mailing list for future show updates, and buy your tickets for the release show.
