LA Punk Rockers The Hellflowers Dive Into Vintage Horror With “Creature”

Darkly Playful Love Song Inspired By Creature From The Black Lagoon

Monster Love

We love Halloween playlists, and beloved Los Angeles punk rockers The Hellflowers just made it to the top of ours with the release of their new single, “Creature.” Inspired by vocalist Christina Eskew’s obsession with one of the absolute greatest classic monster movies, Creature from the Black Lagoon, the track arrives just in time for our favorite holiday and offers a rockin’ preview of the band’s forthcoming third album, Haunted, set to be released via Missing Fink Records in February 2027.

Classic Horror Inspiration

Part vintage horror fantasy and part unrequited love song, “Creature” explores the irresistible pull of falling for someone—or something—you can never truly have. Punk-rock energy, garage-rock grit and a twisted romantic streak collide in a darkly playful love letter to the misunderstood monster lurking beneath the surface.

“I am obsessed with the Creature from the Black Lagoon, so I thought it was high time I wrote a love song about him,” says Christina Eskew. “I’m stoked it will be out just in time for Halloween.”

You’re Going to Love The Music Video

Creature was mixed and mastered by Dave Klein Recording. The awesome music video was directed by Matt Eskew, with additional camera work by Lara Green and Adie Consentino. The brilliant overlay art was provided by ACIDBITE and Herman Huang.

The Next Chapter

“Creature” follows the band’s September single “Wild Ones,” a defiant anthem celebrating women’s autonomy and the freedom to live on their own terms. Both songs introduce the next chapter for The Hellflowers.

Catch Them Live

Good news California, The Hellflowers have a few upcoming shows in the state including in Los Angeles, November 1 at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach and November 13 at Bar 10 at Corbin Bowl in Tarzana. Don’t miss their live show, the band has built a reputation for high-energy live performances, memorable hooks and a fiercely independent DIY spirit.
