Wren + Wilde Deliver a Cathartic Kiss-Off in ‘Haunted Home’

Leaving Lingering Spirits Behind with a Smoke Folk Sayonara

We’re listening to Minnesota folk band Wren + Wilde, who recently released their debut album, Serial Dreamers. With 12 tracks, there are no bad choices on this album, but it’s the tenth track, “Haunted Home,” that rightfully earned a place on our Samhain playlist.

Honestly, we shy away from halloween horror films and houses. Why? Because the horror genre is often the most accurate mirror for the real-world trauma and systemic threats women face daily, and who needs that trigger? But “Haunted Home” made us consider that dynamic on a deeper level. The song confronts the uncertainty of starting over after a relationship unravels with an upbeat fearlessness that delivers a sweet sayonara to the ghostly whispers left behind after a lover departs. Here’s a sweet cathartic kiss-off to lingering spirits.

Wren + Wilde blend haunting harmonies with a gritty flavor of Americana, crafting songs that smolder with equal parts fire and feeling. Singer-songwriter Hilary Yoder leads the band with unflinching honesty and heartland soul, describing their signature sound as “smoke folk”—a mix of Southern gothic, vintage country, and Laurel Canyon-era rock. At its heart, Serial Dreamers is a record about finding your way back: to yourself, to the people you love, and to the dreams that keep calling you home.

We are listening to this track with the big picture in mind, and we’ll be humming it as we leave the patriarchy behind.
