Reimagining Our Streets: Heart of LA – CicLAvia Returns on October 11

Echo Park, Downtown LA, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, the Arts District, and Boyle Heights get ready for 6.5 miles of car-free fun!

On Sunday, October 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., CicLAvia returns to Los Angeles with its flagship “Heart of LA” open streets route. Celebrating 16 years and its 68th car-free event, this free 6.5-mile pop-up park connects several historic neighborhoods—including Echo Park, Downtown LA, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, the Arts District, and Boyle Heights—inviting people of all ages and abilities to explore the city at their own pace.

The Civic & Cultural Importance of CicLAvia

Returning to the “Heart of LA” route where CicLAvia first launched in 2010 offers a powerful reminder of how urban streets can be reimagined when designed for people rather than cars. Over the past 16 years, nearly two million Angelenos have explored more than 380 miles of open city streets together.

CicLAvia plays a vital role in the civic fabric of Los Angeles by:

• Promoting Public Health & Well-Being: Encouraging active transportation, physical exercise, and mental health.

Key Event Details & Participation Guidelines

• When: Sunday, October 11, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m..
• Cost & Access: 100% Free and open to all; no registration is required, and participants can join or leave anywhere along the route at any time.
• Allowed Transportation: The route is strictly dedicated to people-powered mobility.
  • Allowed: Walking, jogging, biking, roller skating, skateboarding, and using manual or motorized wheelchairs.
  • E-Bikes: Class 1 pedal-assist e-bikes are allowed. Class 2 e-bikes are permitted only with the throttle turned off, and Class 3 e-bikes with pedal-assist turned off.
  • Prohibited: Electric scooters, electric skateboards, hoverboards, electric unicycles, motorcycles, and other non-people-powered vehicles.

Route Hubs & Amenities

The 6.5-mile route features four activity hubs that serve as mandatory bike-dismount walking zones and community gathering spots:

1. Echo Park Hub (presented by Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez): Located on Bellevue Ave off Glendale Blvd, near the south side of Echo Park Lake.
2. Chinatown Hub: Located on N Broadway, north of College St.
3. Little Tokyo Hub: Located on S Central Ave, south of 1st St.
4. Mariachi Plaza Hub: Located on 1st St, east of S Boyle Ave.

Hub Amenities Include: Free family-friendly activities and programming, restrooms, free water refilling stations, basic bike repair, bike parking, seating areas, first aid, and free pedicab rides departing from information booths.
