Punk Powerhouse KIM THEORY Takes LA by Storm with New EP ‘Trophy Wife’ and Tour
From local house parties to Lollapalooza: How LA’s favorite teen punk quartet built a national buzz in just 18 months.
Forget homework; Los Angeles teen quartet Kim Theory is busy revitalizing the West Coast underground. Today, the all-girl powerhouse officially unleashes their ferocious sophomore EP, Trophy Wife. Band members Audrey Cymone, Lula Seifert, Lucy Fraser, and Zoey Su have taken over the LA scene with genuine riot grrrl audaciousness.
They are about to take that urgency nationwide. If you want to catch Kim Theory before they explode globally, the clock is ticking. This month, the band makes a massive festival debut at Lollapalooza in Chicago, playing a midday set on the Airbnb Stage before heading to Subterranean for a late-night aftershow with Finn Wolfhard (of Stranger Things fame).
The momentum doesn’t slow down this fall, either. The band is slated to share the stage with their mentors, Bratmobile, at the Lodge Room, and they will wrap up the year with a major debut at the Darker Waves Festival in Orange County, sharing a massive bill with heavy hitters like Morrissey, Smashing Pumpkins, Bad Religion, and Adam Ant.
Deeply Rooted in the City of Angels
While many bands struggle to find their footing, Kim Theory has spent the last 18 months becoming a staple of the indie LA music scene. They’re earning their place in LA music lore by playing all-ages venues and homegrown house parties that built a dedicated local following.
Their sound—a high-energy blend of indie rock, riot grrrl, and pop punk—is a love letter to the legends who came before them. Their name is a direct tribute to their musical heroes: Kim Gordon, Kim Shattuck, and Kim Deal. Their local buzz hasn’t gone unnoticed; the band has already been featured in national magazines, and they caught the attention of first-generation riot grrrl icons Bratmobile, who invited the girls to join them on stage after seeing a cover of their song “Gimme Brains” on Instagram.

From Kitten Robot Studios to the Big Stage
The new four-song EP was recorded right in their backyard at Kitten Robot Studios in Los Angeles. It was produced by veteran punk musician Paul Roessler, known for his work with legendary bands like Screamers and 45 Grave.
To celebrate the release, the band is hosting a raw, DIY “Backyard Party” tomorrow night in a Figueroa Street parking lot alongside Uncle and Tallulah June, kicking off a stacked summer and fall run.
