1. Read in Red by Monica Ikegwu

• On View: Through October 17 
• The Exhibit: Band of Vices welcomes Monica Ikegwu back for Read in Red, her fourth solo exhibition with the gallery. After debuting in 2018, Ikegwu has participated in numerous gallery highlights including We’ve Always Been Here (2019) and New Growth (2025). For this latest show, she presents 43 portraits rendered almost entirely in vibrant shades of red.
• In the Artist’s Words: “For these works, I wanted to know what happens when others see Black people not for their race, but just as a person,” Ikegwu shares. “No focus on skin color, just the person.”

2. Hey, Sis (Group Exhibition)

• On View: Through October 17
• Featured Artists: Fawlene Aziza, Magnolia, Lefleur, Roxanne Lewis, Eloise Osyris & Reia Owens
• The Exhibit: This group exhibition brings together five Black women artists whose distinct practices move fluidly through painting, mixed media, sculpture, poetry, portraiture, and collage. Hey, Sis offers its artists room to explore without requiring their work to represent an entire community, respond to a particular social moment, or conform to outside expectations. What connects the exhibition is not a prescribed subject, but the freedom to pursue the individual stories, questions, and ideas that genuinely belong to each artist.

3. MAW by Anna Wittenberg

• On View: September 25 – October 24, 2026
• Opening Reception: Friday, September 25 | 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM
• The Exhibit: At the center of MAW is a new, room-sized resonant sonic sculpture constructed from absurd and banal everyday objects gathered from the streets of Los Angeles. Continuing Wittenberg’s exploration into domestic detritus and anatomical systems of respiration, the installation utilizes a 20-foot, 5-inch PVC tube to pierce, aspirate, and amplify found media—giving voice to a hybrid body.
• The Context: The show features an accompanying exhibition text written by artist and frequent collaborator Nick Herman, which examines the raw, tonal onomatopoeia of the word maw, tracing its roots from Old English and Proto-Germanic terms for the stomach.

4. Matter and Memory by Deena Capparelli

• On View: Through October 18, 2026
• Special Event: Live Artist Talk moderated by artist and activist Yrneh Gabon on Sunday, October 4 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
• The Exhibit: Deena Capparelli is a prominent California painter and educator raised in the agricultural landscape of Rancho Cucamonga. Her landscape paintings, site-specific installations, and interdisciplinary collaborations heavily investigate land art, ecology, geography, and botany. This recent series beautifully merges rigorous ecological histories with imaginative, speculative fiction.
