Minnesota rockers Scott Allen & The List drop their new album today. JUNE features Allen’s catchy riffs and memorable lyrics, backed by some of Minneapolis’s finest musicians. We’ve said it before, but there’s something about bands from Minneapolis that always surprises us in the best ways—the local lineup of talent truly feels endless. JUNE delivers 12 tracks that go straight for the heart, and every single one makes you want to hit repeat.

Standout Tracks & Classic Influences

JUNE kicks off with a straight-ahead rock-and-roll intro. “Sweeter than Before” is perfectly crafted with subversive pop turns. Its addictive chorus caught us off guard, blending complex harmonies that take unexpected turns you can’t help but love.

One of our favorite tracks, “Wool Hat,” was inspired by the passing of Michael Nesmith of The Monkees. It takes us back to a more innocent time, when the band’s Saturday morning shenanigans were delivered straight to our living room TVs. We love a catchy, upbeat hook, and this one reminds us of early Pretenders riffs, offering the absolute best kind of rock-and-roll jangle and groove. Scott Allen is a wonderful, melodic songwriter, and “Wool Hat’s” lyrics make us want to start a band with our best friends.

Meanwhile, “Funny Little Spaceman” is just a whole lot of fun.

The Twin Cities Lineup & Production

The core band features Scott Allen on vocals (Slippery People, Terry Lyn Owens and The Cat Brigade, Planet Melvin, The Delilahs, Aaron Seymour Band), Patrik Tanner on guitar (Martin Zellar and the Hardways, The Faraway Men, GB Leighton, Tina & The B-Sides), Kirk Hall on drums, Tony Ortiz (The Customers), Xenia Sandstrom-McGuire on bass (Our House: A Tribute to CSNY, Self Neglecters), and J. Benson on guitar (John Magnuson Trio, Lolo’s Ghost, Johnny Clueless). Additional guest players include Noah Levy (drums), Edie Baumgart (backing vocals), Kent Miltzer (slide guitar), Riley Helgeson (trumpet), and Per Thornberg (saxophone).

JUNE was recorded, mixed, and produced by Patrik Tanner at Bredsound Recordings in St. Louis Park, MN, and mastered by Tom Garneau at Audioactive in Minneapolis.
