Love Mischief Brings ‘The Rainbow Gate’ to June Lake Jam Fest

The Sacramento jam band is set to take the stage Friday, September 11, delivering their signature genre-bending sound and tracks from their debut full-length album.

Love Mischief, one of Northern California’s favorite live jam bands, is set to play Friday, September 11 at the June Lake Jam Fest. Founded in Sacramento in 2013, the group has quickly carved out a reputation for their free-wheeling improvisation and unpredictable, genre-bending live performances. They seamlessly blend a deep respect for classic jam traditions with a crisp, modern edge, pulling from deep roots in jazz, psychedelic rock, funk, and progressive music.

Berklee Roots to Festival Stages: The Love Mischief Story

Frontman and guitarist Brian Curtin, a graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music, is a tonal virtuoso whose wild imagination, mastery of effects, and layered grooves have elevated the band into a coveted space in the jam world. Alongside his brother Colin Curtin, an excellent guitarist and vocalist in his own right, and keyboardist Neil Heaton, an ultra-jazzy improvisational player, their live repertoire places a massive emphasis on complex, ambitious original songwriting. They balance their originals with a thoughtfully curated selection of covers from legendary icons like the Grateful Dead, Phish, Pink Floyd, and The Beatles.

Spanning nine tracks and clocking in at just over an hour of music, the album showcases the band’s studio mastery. The upbeat, easily accessible opening track sets the tone for the record, exploring the theme of recognizing a fellow traveler out in the world. Recorded at Q Division Studios in Somerville, Massachusetts, with acclaimed engineer Jeremy Bernstein, the album proves that this powerhouse group is successfully making waves and opening minds both in the studio and on the stage.
