Palmyra Delran Covers Joey Ramone’s “Spirit In My House”
Garage-rock and trash-pop mainstay puts her own spin on the lesser-known Joey Ramone solo track, out digitally via Wicked Cool Records.
Just in time for Halloween, Palmyra Delran and the Doppel Gang are summoning the spirit of Joey Ramone with their new digital single October 9, “Spirit In My House” via Wicked Cool Records.
The Story Behind the Joey Ramone Cover
Originally recorded by Joey Ramone, “Spirit In My House” entered Delran’s repertoire several years ago during preparations for one of the annual celebrations honoring Joey’s birthday. Rather than reaching for one of his best-known songs, Delran dug deeper into his solo catalog, choosing “Spirit In My House” and “Mr. Punchy” for the occasion.
“Joey Ramone’s brother Mickey Leigh invited my band The Doppel Gang to play a few songs for one of the yearly Joey birthday bash celebrations a few years back,” Delran recalls. “I thought it would be great to learn a few of Joey’s lesser known solo songs—‘Spirit In My House’ and ‘Mr Punchy.’ My pals at Wicked Cool Records heard ‘Spirit In My House’ and thought it would be perfect to release around Halloween. I think it totally nails the vibe of our favorite holiday!”

A Spooky Garage-Rock Tribute
Delran and the Doppel Gang bring their own garage-rock punch to “Spirit In My House,” embracing the song’s spooky premise without losing the hooks and swagger at its core. It’s a natural pairing: a deep cut from one of punk rock’s most unmistakable voices reinterpreted by an artist whose own career has been built on fuzzy guitars, big melodies, punk attitude, and an encyclopedic love of rock ’n’ roll.
The single follows Delran and the Doppel Gang’s April release “Hold Tight,” their fuzzed-up take on the 1960s Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich favorite.
About Palmyra Delran
Palmyra Delran has spent decades carving out her own corner of rock ’n’ roll with a sound she’s dubbed “trash-pop”—a hook-heavy collision of garage rock, punk, power pop, and vintage pop influences. A singer, songwriter, guitarist, producer, and DJ, Delran has built a career around indelible melodies, fuzzy guitars, and the rough edges that make great rock ’n’ roll feel alive.
Delran first made her mark as a founding member of The Friggs, the all-female rock band that emerged from the East Coast underground in the 1990s and developed a devoted following with its combination of garage-rock grit, punk energy, and pop melody. She later established an acclaimed solo career and assembled the Doppel Gang.
Her solo catalog includes You Are What You Absorb and Come Spy With Me, the latter featuring an impressive cast of guest musicians and collaborators. Her numerous singles, collaborations, and releases have further established Delran’s distinctive mix of melody, grit, and rock ’n’ roll attitude, while her longstanding relationship with Little Steven Van Zandt’s Wicked Cool Records has provided a natural home for her music.
Supergroups & SiriusXM Underground Garage
Delran is also a member of The Coolies, alongside Melanie Vammen of The Pandoras, Clem Burke of Blondie, and Kathy Valentine of The Go-Go’s. The group was originally formed with the late Kim Shattuck of The Muffs, bringing together musicians whose histories run through some of punk, garage, and power pop’s most beloved bands.
Beyond making records, Delran is a familiar voice to listeners of SiriusXM’s Underground Garage, where her work as a DJ and curator reflects the same deep knowledge and enthusiasm for rock ’n’ roll that runs through her own music. She is also appearing on the 2026 Underground Garage Cruise, joining a lineup drawn from the garage, punk, and rock ’n’ roll community.
With “Spirit In My House,” Delran and the Doppel Gang add another entry to that history while tipping their hats to Joey Ramone and delivering a suitably haunted soundtrack for their favorite time of year.
