The film was written by Browning and Scott Smith, and brought to life by producers John DeTemple, John Oda, Scott Smith, and Felipe Borges. Produced in association with DINC and supported by industry giants Rockstar Energy and Body Glove, A Marble in the Jar is a narrative of resilience that will expand how audiences view the ultimate triumph.

A Simple Ritual with Infinite Meaning

At the center of the documentary is the relationship between elite professional surfer Tatiana Weston-Webb and her coach, mentor, and close friend Greg Browning [1]. As Tatiana chases a coveted World Title, Greg confronts a far different, devastating opponent: a progressive ALS diagnosis.

The title of the film comes from a simple, grounding tradition the duo shares: Whenever something good happens, whether it’s an incredible wave, a technical breakthrough, or a small moment worth celebrating, they place a marble in a jar.

As Tatiana experiences the devastating heartbreak of falling short of her World Title goals and fights her way back, Greg’s ALS condition progresses. This slow, physical decline imbues their simple marble ritual with a much deeper, more poignant meaning. Ultimately, the documentary shifts from a chase for gold into a profound exploration of friendship, loss, perspective, and what it truly means to win. Greg completed the film as his final gift to Tatiana.
