Finding clarity in the shadows with debut single “in moments”

In the dynamic, generational ecosystem of Los Angeles alternative music, transformation is the only constant. Enter Cascades, a new local quartet launching their debut single and video, “in moments” offering the first glimpse into their upcoming EP offering the first glimpse into their upcoming EP “liminality,” ” due September 25 via Many Hats Endeavors.

The band masterfully blends post-hardcore intensity, shoegaze atmosphere, and alternative rock melody. Composed of seasoned industry veterans, Cascades represents a sophisticated evolution funneling decades of collective experience into a fresh, intentional sound rather than a simple continuation of past successes.

A formidable lineup forged in right timing

The group’s formidable lineup anchors this new direction. Vocalist and guitarist Jeremy Hernandez brings a deep melodic punk pedigree from his time with Fearless Records mainstays Bigwig and Near Miss, while bassist Bobby Kay boasts a major-label background with Universal Republic and active touring chops with Lady Radiator. Rocketed forward by Jenna Terranova’s high-energy, punk-inspired drumming and layered by Shane Burns’ atmospheric lead guitar work, Cascades bypasses the typical growing pains of a new band. Instead, they lock into a mature musical identity that Kay describes not as a mere coincidence, but as a product of “the right timing.

It Is the Tunnel

That impeccable timing manifests heavily in the thematic weight of liminality, a record deeply rooted in the transitional phases of life. Frontman Jeremy Hernandez explains that “in moments” explores the heavy, sometimes disorienting space between an artist’s past lives and their creative future.

“The song and the whole EP are really about the space you occupy where one version of you is ending before a new one emerges,” Hernandez shares. “It’s not about the light at the end of the tunnel. It is the tunnel. It’s not really about the darkness—it’s more about what you notice when your eyes finally adjust to it.”

Sight and sound shadow work

The new music video visually expands on this exact sentiment. Artfully directed by Jeff Antons and edited by Bobby Kay, the piece masterfully captures the emotional depths of darkness and light that come through so beautifully in the song.

We relate to Hernandez’s metaphor, as it perfectly mirrors the feeling “in moments” creates. The track doesn’t rush toward an easy, optimistic resolution; instead, it dwells intentionally inside the shadows in ways that deftones, Incubus and Linkin Park once mastered. Recorded with veteran producer Steve Kravac (MxPx) and mixed by John Naclerio (My Chemical Romance, Brand New), Liminality establishes Cascades as a compelling, grounded, and vital new voice in Los Angeles and beyond.
