The Seductive and the Strange: Furii Ignites a New Landscape with Pyromancy
Adrien Rodes’ Newest Fresh Experiment
With the release of the debut full-length album Pyromancy, the musical project Furii, the alias of Adrien Rodes (also known as Topo Gigio)—has delivered a collection that is as intellectually stimulating as it is texturally adventurous. Released via Amon Tobin’s Nomark label, this 11-track odyssey marks a significant evolution from the project’s earlier 2026 EP, Aphant, fulfilling the high expectations set by critics who have previously described Furii’s sound as “beautiful,” “glorious,” and reminiscent of the “Flaming Lips if they lived in a musical box”.
Adrien Rodes is no stranger to complex harmonic landscapes, bringing a pedigree that includes long-time membership in Tim Smith’s Spratley’s and performing as a live musician for the legendary Cardiacs. For Pyromancy, Rodes approached the songwriting as a “fresh experiment,” a mindset that allowed the music to travel in a “slew of different musical directions” that both delight and confound the listener. We find it–simply luscious.
This experimental spirit is evident in the album’s range, which shifts seamlessly from the easy grooves of “Permian” to the “disconcerting pop” of the absolutely danceable, under-two-minute “Angle,” and even into the rich classical orchestration found on the track “Bark“.

A defining element of the album is the deep collaborative synergy between Adrien Rodes and Jo Spratley. Far from a guest contributor, Spratley’s vocals serve as a “second conscience” throughout the record, weaving through the instrumentation with an emotional depth that Rodes credits with elevating the material “beyond measure”. Rodes notes that writing for Pyromancy was a joy specifically because of how Spratley would take his tunes “somewhere else,” often replacing his initial ideas with her own “brilliant” vocal melodies. It is a sentiment that strikes a chord because as listeners, we too find real joy in the trip to “somewhere else” Pyromancy takes us. An evocative space where the production’s“playful yet precise” touch “cradles” her performances, allowing them to “bloom like a bouquet of thorny roses“.
The album also leaves room for the listener’s own imagination, particularly on instrumental tracks like “Radiolaria” and “Shallow“. These pieces offer a “complex weave” of sound where there is intentional space for one to mentally or literally sing their own melodies. By balancing these open-ended instrumentals with the meticulously crafted lead single “ILK,” Furii has created a debut LP that feels both deeply personal and expansively universal. Pyromancy is a meticulously produced testament to the power of artistic experimentation, establishing a bold and textured new soundtrack perfect for right now, we love it.
