A Rare Glimpse into the Heart of the Beat Generation with Linda King, Bukowski’s Wildest Love

Cowboy Bikinis and Rare Sculptures: The Most Anticipated Art Event of the Season

This weekend the cultural epicenter of Los Angeles will shift to the Beverly Center’s BLVK Book Art Gallery, for a monumental event that bridges the gap between literary history and contemporary fine art. On Saturday, June 20 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Linda King Arts presentsBukowski’s Wildest Love,” an exhibition and immersive celebration of the 1970s literary and art revolution.

A Living History of the Beat Generation

At the heart of the exhibition is a piece of history rarely seen by the public: the original Bukowski bust that Linda King sculpted from life. This sculpture, which famously began her tumultuous and storied relationship with the legendary poet Charles Bukowski, has been photographed for half a century but has spent very little time on public display.

Bukowski and Bust

For the first time in 17 years, the bust will be reunited with the original paintings from “Bukowski Undigested” (2008), a collection of King’s poetry illustrated by guest artist Matt Sesow. Attendees will also have the chance to view King’s sculpted “Beat constellation,” featuring busts of other iconic figures like Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Jack Micheline, and Harold Norse.

More Than a Retrospective: A Family Reunion

A rare opportunity to engage with those who lived the stories. The evening is a multi-generational family affair:

  • Linda King will be in attendance to share her insights as a sculptor, poet, and Bukowski’s defining muse.
  • Her son, Scott Dylyn Hall, will serve as the host for the evening.
  • Her nephew, theatre director Raymond King Shurtz, will provide live musical performances.

Guest artist Matt Sesow and painter Dana Ellyn also return to Los Angeles for the exhibition, with Ellyn debuting new work inspired by King’s life and writing.
