Blending satire with vulnerability

Houston alt-comedy staple Cole Triplett is bringing their innovative comedic voice to the Hollywood Fringe Festival this June for the debut of their solo show, DOOFUS. Directed by award-winning director and “Soft Clown” creator Natasha Mercado, this production marks a significant milestone for Triplett, who has spent a decade pushing the boundaries of sketch and improv across the country.

A Darkly Humorous Exploration of Power DOOFUS is a solo clown performance with a sharp, bouffon edge. The show centers on a charismatic yet deeply flawed landlord, using a blend of satire and vulnerability to explore the contradictions of desire and power. Triplett utilizes heightened physicality and absurdist flair to embody a character who is as magnetic as he is morally questionable, inviting the audience to laugh, cringe, and confront their own complicated impulses.

Award-Winning Creative Team

Triplett, a writer and improviser whose work has been featured at legendary institutions like The Upright Citizens Brigade, The Groundlings, and Second City Chicago, brings a seasoned perspective to the Fringe stage. They are joined by director Natasha Mercado, whose own solo works have toured internationally to critical acclaim. Mercado’s direction focuses on the intelligence of the body and the relationship with the audience, ensuring DOOFUS is a “theatrical experience that is both hilarious, innovative, and unexpectedly moving”.

Bold, unfiltered, and unapologetically messy, DOOFUS is a standout late-night Fringe offering that challenges assumptions while delivering big laughs.
